The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has announced an extension for its low-interest physical disaster loan application deadline for Wisconsin residents and businesses affected by recent disasters. The new deadline to file applications for physical damage loans is November 12, 2025.
Counties eligible for assistance
The disaster declaration primarily covers the Wisconsin counties of Milwaukee, Washington, and Waukesha, which are eligible for both Physical Damage Loans and Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs). Additionally, small businesses and most private nonprofit (PNP) organizations in the adjacent counties of Dodge, Fond Du Lac, Jefferson, Ozaukee, Racine, Sheboygan, and Walworth are eligible to apply for EIDLs only.
Loan details for individuals and businesses
The SBA provides various loans to help homeowners, renters, businesses, and nonprofits recover from disaster-related physical damages.
- Businesses and nonprofits: Eligible entities can apply for business physical disaster loans of up to $2 million to repair or replace real estate, machinery, equipment, inventory, and other assets damaged or destroyed during the disaster.
- Homeowners and renters: Homeowners may apply for loans of up to $500,000 to repair or replace their primary residences. Renters and homeowners are eligible for loans of up to $100,000 to cover the replacement or repair of personal property, such as clothing, furniture, cars, and appliances.
Additional assistance for mitigation
Applicants may also qualify for a loan increase of up to 20% of their total physical damages, as verified by the SBA, to fund mitigation improvements. These enhancements can include measures such as strengthening structures against high winds, upgrading to wind-resistant garage doors, or installing safe rooms or storm shelters. Such improvements are designed to help protect property and occupants from future disasters.
The SBA’s extended deadline aims to ensure that eligible individuals and organizations have ample time to access these critical resources as they rebuild and recover.
